“Never rebel for the sake of rebelling, but always rebel for the sake of truth.” - Criss Jami

When we look at the life of Jesus, we can see how He was viewed as a rebel. According to the culture of that time, He did and said things that many considered offensive. He didn’t allow the opinions or false accusations of others to interfere with His mission and never lost sight of what He was sent to do. He wasn't concerned with how others viewed Him and wasn’t afraid to stand alone. He came as the light of the world to bring hope and life to the lost. In the same way, we as His followers are called to be salt and light to a broken world, one that rejects truth and sets up false idols in place of God. As educators and students on campus, where God is not embraced and the truth is relative, we must stand firm. Remember that they hated Him, and they will surely hate us.

As we enter our campuses and even our local High Schools, let us view them as a Mission Field. Taking an approach that is not only willing but prepared to engage. We must consider the culture and sub-cultures we will encounter daily. This approach requires a life dedicated to prayer, study, and models after Jesus. In doing this we will be more effective in not only engaging the culture but transforming the culture. Jesus wasn’t a rebel because He broke the law, but Christ was the transformer of culture. We are called to be leaders in our communities and influence this generation through truth and love. Let us come together as a voice in the wilderness and proclaim the good news, while loving our neighbors, and our enemies.
